Let's begin 2019

As a way to capture all the learnings and lessons from the books I've read I started 2019 with this blog!  Mostly for me to reflect back on why I loved or didn't love so much the books I've read.  Sometimes I remember loving it so much, holding to my chest when I'm finished.  Yet months later I don't recall what it was that I loved so much.

A bit more about me:

Love my coffee
Collecting mugs
Theo the cat
Finding new coffee spots with my daughter
Used book stores
Libraries
New book stores
Books
Podcasts
Learning
Coffee, did I mention coffee

I used to think that capturing a picture of a library book wasn't allowed when keeping track of my books.  Perhaps I self-imposed this rule because I didn't own the book.  I've discarded that theory this year and will fill my reading list with books that cross my path.  That may be by way of book store, used book sale, borrowing from a friend and yes, the library.

There has been so much fun lately introducing my daughter to used book stores.  We're frequent visitors to the library, and now book stores are another avenue.  Usually when we combine with a trip to get coffee!

I've kept track of my books read in a list for years.  Although I never add the details.  I also used GoodReads for years, but have shied away from adding a review for fear of giving something away.  Well here goes .. my first spot to share the loves and losses from my reading journey!

Books That Help Me Through

Today I'm recreating my version of Oprah's "Books That Help Me Through" with a stack of my own version. These amazing books are each part of my growing stack of 'helpers'. Each came into my life at a different time and helped me through what I was going through at the time. Now is one of those times in our country, with our family and friends that we need to finish the year strong. Here's my stack: 10% Happier - Dan Harris Leaving the Enchanted Forest - Liana Beckett Learning to Breathe - Priscilla Warner Rising Strong - Brene Brown Real Happiness - Sharon Salzberg A Year by the Sea - Joan Anderson A Woman's Journey to God - Joan Borysenko Tell Me More - Kelly Corrigan I'm also in gratitude for my awesome new t-shirt from Jocelyn who makes the most amazing products. She designed my graphic and also a really great raising mental health awareness water bottle! She's fantastic. Please visit her Etsy shop Marked by Jo. There's a link on home ...

Hello, Sunshine

⭐⭐⭐ Audio book. I thoroughly enjoyed Eight Hundred Grapes by Laura Dave.  When I moved on the First Husband I thought, 'meh.'  And when I read Hello, Sunshine I was glad I found it on audio as it made for an entertaining listen.  Abeit light, it did entertain.  Loved the picturesque setting in the Hamptons and the summer lifestyle with hints of New York City.  Two books in a row for me where someone else's child had a profound impact on the protagonist.  Story of love, forgiveness, regret, friendship and acceptance. light as air, bright as sunshine!

Migrations

Migrations was a beautiful song in the midst of chaos. The characters were relatable, flawed, adventurous and calm. The story centers around Franny Stone and her study of bird migration. Yet this story is so very much more. Her desire is to follow 'her birds' which lands her aboard a vessel in Antarctica. And the journey begins. Love, loss, forgiveness, strength, perseverance and nature play a part in this beautiful story! DESCRIPTION: Franny Stone has always been a wanderer. By following the ocean’s tides and the birds that soar above, she can forget the losses that have haunted her life. But when the wild she loves begins to disappear, Franny can no longer wander without a destination. She arrives in remote Greenland with one purpose: to find the world’s last flock of Arctic terns and follow them on their final migration.  She convinces Ennis Malone, captain of the Saghani, to take her onboard, winning over his eccentric crew with promises that the birds she is tracking wi...
